Music Video Final Feedback

When we finished constructing our music video, we had a viewing in the TV Studio where everyone could view each other's work and give both negative and positive feedback. In this clip, it shows all the feedback I received from people from different classes and people who don't do Media as an A level.

The key pieces of feedback we received were:
  • “I like the cutting rate, it was really fast and I liked the way they used the camera so it wasn’t just still on the tripod, they turned it around. And I liked the use of the double exposure at the end. All the colours were bright and strong so it was interesting to watch, it wasn’t boring”
  • “I liked the range of locations and I liked the use of smoke bombs, it matched everything. The colours all work together and I like the green screen”
  • “I really liked it, I thought it was quite interesting to watch, but I didn’t get the food colouring bit, I get it was artistic but I didn’t get why it was there and there was some parts with the projection where you could barely see her face.”
  • “I liked the use of colour, I know there’s already a lot going on but you could’ve related more to the lyrics, I wanted to know who she was speaking to and there was location where it was grainy

Notes: Andrew Goodwin Theory

- Believes that music videos ignore common narrative since they may be used for advertisements.
- Believes that the consumers will make up the meanings in their mind.

These elements were mostly found in music videos:
Romance - showing love and happiness through use of couples and PDA
Nostalgia - looking back at something, admiring the past
Nihilism - meaning depressed and dark, they are very negative and reject everything such as morals and society.
Love & Sex -
Loss of Innocence - changing identity to sexualise
Treatment of authority - talking about police in Grime music
Social Consciousness - talking about issues around the world such as homosexuality

Edit in time to the beat (fast paced)

Authorage - how an artist will be identified
My music video, the colour red, genre related style the graffiti relates to R&B
examples of authorage: JLS,  their authorage was being topless, Amy Winehouse, her authorage was her hair and the way she dresses.

Multiple close ups were used mostly for female artists as they were sexualised in the 1990s, this links to Mulvey's theory of the male gaze (but the world would have changed since goodwin's time and now male artists are using multiple close ups sexually.)

Fetishisation - linking to sexualise the artist.

Voyeurism - pleasure for looking (examples old people looking at young people and these are used to sexualise the artist)
My music video doesn't use this as we don't sexualise

Evaluation Plan

Question 1: In what ways does your media products use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

For this question of my evaluation, I think I am going to use a Prezi in order to get everything included and it will be easier to compare and contrast my products with other professional products.

Using a Prezi will allow me to write more in depth and each slide will cover a different point and different 'layers'.

I will create a textual analysis of my music video of the connotations, denotations and using images to illustrate the video. After I analyse the music video, I will also analyse my print products the same way, but talking about the colour schemes, fonts and type of shots. The key elements of my music video and print products will be discussed and how the reinforce and subvert the key conventions of music videos and print products. Lastly, critical theory will be used to bring this all together.

Question 2: How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

For this question, I will also be using an Emaze to discuss how my three products come together in order to work as a package. I will be using this software due to the fact that it is a similar software to Prezi. As this is the second time using this for my coursework, I will be familiar with the tools as it is like powerpoint and I will be able to show my work.

Work In Progress: CD Cover

Today in my free periods, I started constructing my CD Cover and this is all that I have done so far. I have asked two friends of mine if they liked it so far and they said that they did. Some finishing touches may be made but I like the cover so far.
